The SUB18 - Amalgamated Minor Works in Mt. Kuring Gai, Blacktown, Minto & Riverstone

The project was initiated as a result of the Sydney Trains (ST) Power Studies that identified:

a) Mount Kuring-Gai Sectioning Hut was originally identified by the 2018TT SGT & NIF – Direct Current Power Study (ER1062) August 2017 for upgrade with an intertripping scheme. However, the existing sectioning hut utilises the older British Thompson Houston (BTH) Breakers which cannot be upgraded with the intertripping scheme. Therefore the new Mount Kuring-Gai Sectioning Hut will replace the existing sectioning hut with newer Hawker Siddley DCCB’s that facilitate 1500V DC intertrips.

b) The South Coast Auto-REC Pilot Trial was eliminated from SUB18 due to further investigation carried out by Sydney Trains and TfNSW that these two site actually had no nuisance tripping. A new location was being looked at.

c) Blacktown Carpark Civil works Poor drainage and fence in wrong location required civils of the following:

New Kerbing of 170 meters

New Ashpalt in car park

New fence following boundary line 170 meters

New Stormwater drainage and connection points

d) Minto New Permanent Water supply-  the existing water supply connected from Streets Warehouse was removed and A new connection point from Pembroke Road (in park) was done the consist of:

Approx. 400 meters of Underbore

Approx 40 meters of open trench to connect to existing substation main connection point.

e) Riverstone Auto REC location was introduced as a location after Bombo and Albion Park was removed. Pilot Trial of an Auto-REC (Siemens unit) to address the issue of REC (Rail Earth Conductor) tripping which is currently being experienced on the North Western Line due to excessive peak traction currents arising from traction power capacity issues.  Novo Rail will be required to undertake detailed design, construction and performance-monitoring of the units during the trial period. Novo Rail will then be required to produce a recommendation report for Type Approval.
